Agra Fort Sightseeing
The
Agra Fort premises currently house 30 buildings, including the
Diwan-e-Am, which served as the hall for public audience, and the
Diwan-e-Khas, where royal meetings were held with restricted entry. Moti
Masjid stands out as India's first Mosque built in white Marble. Other
notable monuments within the fort campus include Jahangir’s Palace,
Sheesh Mahal and Khas Mahal, all of which hold significant historical
importance. From the Mussaman Burj, visitors can enjoy a majestic view
of the Taj Mahal, while also observing the balcony where the Emperor
spent his final days under house arrest, with the symbol of white Marble
on the same side, across the river Yamuna. Access to the fort is through
the Amar Singh gate. Construction of the fort began in 1565 under
Emperor Akbar and was further enhanced by his grandson Shah Jahan, who
added several white Marble structures to the campus. At 15:30 hrs,
visitors can explore the Zardozi art factory and showroom, which
showcases splendid heritage artworks.
