Tour Program

09:30 Hrs Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal is considered to be the greatest architectural achievement in the whole range of Indo-Islamic architecture. Taj Mahal represents the finest architectural and artistic achievement through perfect harmony and excellent craftsmanship in a whole range of Indo-Islamic sepulchral architecture. It is a masterpiece of architectural style in conception, treatment and execution and has unique aesthetic qualities in balance, symmetry and harmonious blending of various elements.

12:00 hrs: Visit the marble factory to experience the semi-precious stone work in Taj Mahal, done by the Persian artist in the 17th century, famously known as inlay work.

13:00 hrs.: Lunch in 5-Star Hotel

14:00 hrs: Agra Fort

Discover Agra Fort, one of the best forts in India, built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar with numerous other constructions, for example the Musamman Burj. Later, Jahan’s own son arrived at the same place where Shah Jahan used to see the Taj Mahal and had taken his last breath.

Near the gardens of Taj Mahal stands the important 16th-century Mughal monument known as the Red Fort of Agra. This powerful fortress of red sandstone encompasses within its 2.5-km-long enclosure walls, the imperial city of the Mughal rulers. The forbidding exteriors of this fort hide an inner paradise. There are a number of exquisite buildings like Moti Masjid – a white marble mosque akin to a perfect pearl; Diwan-E-Am, Diwan-E-Khaas, Musamman Burj – where Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan died in 1666 A.D., Jahangir’s Palace, Khaas Mahal and Sheesh Mahal. Agra Fort, an excellent example of Mughal architecture, is one of the few UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India.

The construction of the Agra fort was started around 1565, when the initial structures were built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar, and subsequently taken over by his grandson Shah Jahan, who added most of the marble creations to the fort. The fort is crescent shaped, flattened on the east with a long, nearly straight wall facing the river. It is ringed by double castellated ramparts of red sandstone, punctuated at regular intervals by bastions. A 9m wide and 10m deep moat surrounds the outer wall. An imposing 22m high inner wall imparts a feeling of invincible defensive construction. The layout of the fort was determined by the course of the river, which in those days flowed alongside. The main axis is parallel to the river and the walls bridge out towards the city.

15:30 hrs: Visit to see the art of Zardozi, heritage artwork used to be done by Harem ladies at the time of the Mughal emperor.

16:30 hrs: Enjoy Itmad ud daulah Sightseeing

Nicknamed the Baby Taj, the exquisite tomb of Mizra Ghiyas Beg should not be missed. This Persian nobleman was Mumtaz Mahal’s grandfather and Emperor Jehangir’s wazir (chief minister). His daughter, Nur Jahan, who married Jehangir, built the tomb between 1622 and 1628, in a style similar to the tomb she built for Jehangir near Lahore in Pakistan. Itmad-ud-Daula has a special place in the chronicles of both history and architecture. This is precisely because Itmad ud Daula is the very first tomb in India that is entirely made out of marble. This is actually a mausoleum that overlooks the River Yamuna and is a tomb of Mir Ghiyas Beg, a minister in the court of Shah Jahan.

17:30 hrs: Drive back to Delhi via the expressway.
